Stratford School Raised Global Citizens by Honoring National Multicultural Awareness Week

Stratford School raises global citizens by honoring National Multicultural Awareness Week. Students are taught the meaning of "multicultural," the dimensions of culture, and the importance of appreciating the many diverse cultures that make up Stratford School.
Saratoga, California, January 31, 2014 - Stratford School students enjoyed an abundance of worldly, inspiring, and colorful lesson plans during the week of January 20, 2014, as part of the school-wide recognition of National Multicultural Awareness Week.

National Multicultural Awareness Week allows Stratford School to remind its entire community that character, social skills, and cultural appreciation are just as important as academics in ensuring students build a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning and success.

School activities included imaginary trips around the world with play passports for preschool students, learning simple conversation starters in foreign languages (including, "Merhaba, nesilsin," in Turkish) for elementary school students, and potlucks during homeroom period for middle school students.

Inspirational quotes were featured in classrooms and on social media platforms, driving discussions on American history, and encouraging students to recognize and appreciate the accomplishments of all of our ancestors. The chosen quote for this year's Stratford School Multicultural Awareness Week was: "Intelligence plus character, that is the true goal of education," by Martin Luther King Junior.

"The Stratford School student population is extremely diverse, making National Multicultural Awareness Week a very exciting time for us," says Sherry Adams, Co-founder and Senior Vice President of Stratford School.

Stratford School is proud to represent a very diverse student population. Students and families come from all over the world, including:

Belarus
