Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan: Blackberry canceled Two Phones and Partners with Foxconn is Great News

Technology Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan explains why partnering with Foxconn and cancelling two new smartphones is the first good idea for Blackberry in a long time.
Atlanta, GA, December 24, 2013 - Blackberry said both that they have formed a partnership with Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Group, and that sales of existing new phones have been so bad that it was cancelling the rollout of two as of yet unreleased smartphones, says the Wall Street Journal, Dec. 23.

Technology analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
"Believe it or not, both of these announcements are actually the first very good news I have heard from Blackberry in quite a long time." Says Tech analyst Jeff Kagan.

"The news they are partnering with Foxconn is very good. Foxconn makes some of the heavy hitters and most successful devices in the wireless industry today like the Apple iPhone. Working with them will let Blackberry tap into the kind of thinking they so sorely need to start a recovery." Says Principal analyst Kagan.

"Cancelling the rollout of two unreleased smartphones based on the same design as recent failures is more good news. It seems like somebody hit Blackberry in the head and they are starting to see more clearly now. So far this is all very good news, but it's just the first step in a long journey toward an eventual recovery." Says wireless analyst Kagan.

"The next big question is what comes next? That is a question only new CEO John Chen can answer. So far I like what I see and hear from John Chen. This is the first time in several years that I see hope for growth at Blackberry once again." Says Kagan.

"However it's important to not put the cart ahead of the horse. We have to realize that Blackberry has gone through the ringer and things are very rough over there. However, all it takes is a few good ideas and Blackberry could snap back into growth mode pretty quickly. Let's hope that this is the very early stage of a turnaround. So far, so good." Says Kagan.
