Rochester, NY, December 17, 2013 - OnCell announced today it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire TourSphere, a mobile app technology platform based in Boston, MA. The acquisition will combine OnCell's expertise in self-guided mobile tours and interactive solutions with Toursphere's industry-leading mobile app builder, and will provide an exciting way for cultural sites and organizations to offer immersive experiences to their visitors via their smartphones and tablets.
The acquisition will expand on OnCell's market leadership position in providing hundreds of National Parks, museums, historic sites, convention and visitors' bureaus, colleges, universities, gardens, arboretums, zoos and aquariums with interactive tours that bring educational content to life through mobile technology.
"This is great news for museums and cultural sites that want to use mobile technology to enhance the visitor experience," said Rob Pyles, CEO of TourSphere. "TourSphere developed a cutting-edge app builder and OnCell has incredible clients and customer service. It's a perfect fit."
OnCell was founded by Thomas Dunne, who has served as Chief Executive Officer and President since OnCell's inception on November 4, 2006. Dunne, with over 20 years of experience in application development, telecommunications and sales, has grown OnCell to a team of nearly 20 employees today with over 1,200 projects across the country.
"Interactive mobile technology has just taken another step forward with the merger of OnCell and TourSphere," said Thomas Dunne, President & CEO of OnCell. "I am thrilled that we will be able to better serve more sites and their visitors."
OnCell has a set of key services and features to benefit cultural sites and organizations and their visitors. These include mobile scavenger hunts, mobile surveys, mobile giving, text messaging and geoalerts, as well as a partnership with the Google Field Trip App. OnCell will continue to offer its signature services: mobile web app tours and cell phone tours.
The acquisition of TourSphere will also expand on OnCell's application development by integrating Toursphere's robust and sleek online app builder with OnCell's comprehensive customer interface. TourSphere's award-winning apps are custom branded and formatted, as well as less expensive and more nimble than anything else on the market.
OnCell and TourSphere share a commitment to delivering cutting-edge mobile tour experiences through mobile technology. In the future, additional technical features will be developed and potentially, the acquisition will lead to the pursuance of new vertical markets.
